Minor Operation Theater
Minor Operation Theater
A Minor Operation Theater, also called a Minor OT, is a specially designed medical facility where small and less complicated surgical procedures are carried out under local or short-duration anesthesia. Unlike a major operation theater, which is equipped for complex and lengthy surgeries, a minor OT is used for simpler procedures that do not usually require the patient to stay in the hospital for long. These surgeries are often done on an outpatient or day-care basis.
Common procedures performed in a minor OT include wound suturing, abscess drainage, biopsy, removal of small lumps or cysts, dressing of burns or injuries, ear, nose, and throat procedures, dental extractions, and other minor surgical interventions. The environment is kept sterile and infection-free, ensuring patient safety and smooth recovery.
A minor OT is usually equipped with essential instruments such as surgical lights, operating tables, sterilization equipment, suction machines, cautery machines, anesthesia delivery systems, and a basic monitoring setup to track the patient’s vital signs. Though smaller in scale compared to a major OT, it still follows strict hygiene and sterilization protocols to prevent infections and complications.
The main advantages of a minor operation theater are that it saves time, reduces hospital costs, and allows patients to undergo small procedures in a safe and controlled environment without the need for prolonged hospitalization. It plays a vital role in clinics, small hospitals, and specialized centers by providing quick and effective surgical care for minor medical conditions.
